Ramen is a pretty popular dish not just in Japan but also in foreign countries. If you think of Japan one thing that comes to mind whenever you heard the word “Japan” is Ramen. Ramen can be seen everywhere, in commercials, in the streets, and including in anime. In this blog, I will be talking about Komi san’s time at the ramen shop, but before that, I will be talking about some other stuff that happened on the 5th episode of the show.
Komi-san rival
You can feel that rivalry wasn’t a part of this show. However, when this scene aired it showed that there is some kind of rivalry. It is a kind of rivalry that is not the top kinda rivalry. It is a rivalry in a slice-of-life setting which means, it is not over the top. It is a rivalry in her PE class. Not that much and not that overdramatic because this show is somewhat of a wholesome show.
Komi-san Mother
Her mother has the opposite personality of komis. I somewhat expected her mother to be just like komi but in the show, it shows her to be a kinda energetic type of character who somewhat radiates her surroundings. I didn’t read the manga but in my opinion, the personality of komi san was similar to her father's. Komi-san's mother is kinda surprising but in the end, it was nice seeing that the show, shows up what komi san's family lool like.
Komi san on a ramen shop
In ramen shops, it is respectful for the chief to slurp your ramen. The slurping sound means you liked the ramen and a sign of respect for the one who cook the ramen. That’s is why it is interesting for me at least to see a very shy, komi san making those slurping sounds in animation. Because in the manga, there aren’t usually any sound effects you can hear because it is only on paper. And when it comes to anime, the slurping sound effect will be an anime original thing. It is actually will be interesting how the studio will handle that scene. In the end, it was a good scene, seeing komi san slurping her ramen on a ramen shop. Impression
A new Chunibyu character
The show also introducer a chunibyu character. Chunibyu in Japan is a real occurrence. In the west, chunibyu is considered normal because it is a part of geek culture and geeks now are considered cool. Geek stuff such as watching anime, collecting collectibles, and copying your favorite character is what a chunibyu is like. In Japan, chunibyu are considered childish and immature, It is noticeable because the chuni in japan are acting like the anime character and believe themselves to be than characters. In our case, This chuni character is introduced. This is what chunis in japan looks like. What matters is that Komi-san made a friend with this character, and the more people know komi san the more popular she gets.
Tadano Kun Chunnibyu phase
It is nice to see Tadano's background story on this one. He turns out to be some kind of chuni from the program she watches on tv. It is not anime and maybe it is some kind of gangsterish show, what matters is that he was a chunni. When confessing to her love at that time, she was rejected because the girl find it embarrassing watching Tadano kun. That is why Tadano wants to be as normal as possible. Seeing Tadano's background story and knowing why he became normal is good, in my opinion.
Romance scene at the end
I also like the scene where komi san and Tadano have some of those romantic scenes found in romance books and manga. It is where the girl and the boy share one umbrella. In this show, Tadano and komi san have this romantic scene with each other. It is sweet and they look good together.
In the end, it was an episode full of events happening on it. New characters were shown, such as komi sans mother, komi sans rival, komi sans new chunni friend. It also shows us the interesting situation komi san was in. Scenes such as the ramen scene, Tadano'S past, and the romance between Tadano and komi on the credit scene. It was wholesome.
