The red herring of Oshi no ko

Red herring is a literary device commonly used in various forms of storytelling. It refers to a piece of information introduced into a narrative to distract the audience from the truth. Such devices are meant to add suspense, mislead, and ultimately surprise the audience. One such show that has used the red herring technique is "O Shi No Ko."

"OShi No Ko" is a popular idol show about the world of the idol industry. The story revolves around two siblings, Ruby and Aquamarine. Ruby, the elder one, is set on following her mother's legacy of being a successful idol, while Aquamarine is focused on seeking revenge for her mother's death. The show is captivating and filled with twists that keep the audience engaged. However, the use of red herrings in the show heightens its intrigue.

The first red herring is Ai-chan, the mother of the siblings. Although she is central to the story, she is not the protagonist. Instead, the focus is on Ruby and Aquamarine. Ai-chan's presence is to create a backstory for the siblings' lives, adds more emotional weight to the show, and is a foil between the sisters' differing goals.

Additionally, Rei Takahashi, the voice actress, is also a red herring. The studio hired a well-known voice actor, leading the audience to believe that since the voice actress is popular, the character must be important. This tactic provided an illusion of who the protagonist of the series was, thus keeping the viewers intrigued.

Another red herring is Ai's death. It was clear from the beginning that she had died, but the audience believed that there was a possibility of her survival. Her death created a backstory for her children and fueled Aquamarine's desire for revenge. However, her death is not the real focus of the show.

Moreover, the plot of the show is a red herring. Although the story revolves around Aquamarine's revenge plot, it has been revealed that "O Shi No Ko" is in fact an idol show about the idol industry. The show uses the revenge plot as a device to draw the audience into the world of the idol industry.

In conclusion, the use of red herrings in "O Shi No Ko" added to the suspense and intrigue of the show. The audience was always on edge, and the plot twist at the end of the show surprised everyone. The show paints a vivid picture of the idol industry and the challenges involved. The use of red herrings in storytelling provides an avenue for creativity and plot development that can keep the audience engaged and entertained.
